Please and we'll pull it back in. I just recently install VMware ESXI 6.5 and want to run a RAID. Yes, I know software RAID (FAKE Raid) is not the best, but from what I can tell, it might be able to work. This link shows the card I have and I believe it is usable as a RAID. I have it enable in my BIOS and created a RAID 5 of my drives. Any ideas or do I need to buy a RAID card? I'd rather use this setup than buy a card, but I will if I have to.
Edit: Late in the night and actually forgot to say my issue. I have the drives in a RAID 5 but they show up as individual disks, not a RAID.
What can I do to have the RAID show up. The controller is supported and on the HCL, but the RAID itself is not. The controller only supports software RAID, as you know, and the vmw-AHCI driver does not 'do' software RAID. If you like to screw around, don't care too much about performance, and absolutely need disk redundancy, here's something you can do. • If your machine can boot from USB, Install ESXi to a thumbdrive instead of one of the physical disks. You'll want a 16G or larger thumbdrive for this, because there will be one VM there as well.
